South Africa and UAE in Trade Talks

South Africa’s rail system is built around moving raw materials long distances across the country from mines to transport hubs such as Cape Town. With the GCC Rail network being built, the country can offer expertise to the UAE in building an effective heavy rail network.

South Africa no longer imports locomotives and wagons – it now builds them itself. These could be exported to the GCC region as countries build their own new rail networks.

In return South Africa seek investment in upgrading their own rail network which is aging and does not reach all the parts of the country that could be exploited for mineral wealth.

With experience in hosting its own soccer World Cup, South Africa has expertise in major event management. With the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, their expertise could be shared to mutual benefit. Tourism is a growth industry in the UAE as well – something South Africa has thrived on for decades.
